BRC EDUCATOR HUB
A brand-compliant entry point to the British Red Cross CPD programme for educators of young people.
CLIENT
The British Red Cross is one of the most recognised humanitarian organisations in the world and one of the most tightly governed brands in the UK. Their Educator Hub programme, HumanKind, is a free CPD platform giving teachers and youth workers the training and resources to teach humanitarian subjects including first aid, war and conflict, climate preparedness, and resilience to young people aged 11 to 18.
01
CHALLENGE
- Building a public-facing site for one of the most protected brands in the UK: the Red Cross emblem carries legal protection and the brand guidelines are non-negotiable
- Creating a page that served three purposes at once: marketing the programme, explaining how it works, and routing educators into the LMS without friction
- Communicating the breadth of the programme (multiple courses, multiple delivery formats, curriculum links) clearly and without overwhelming a time-poor teacher audience
02
SOLUTION
- Strict adherence to the British Red Cross brand system throughout: Helvetica Neue LT Pro, the BRC red, white space, and no decorative elements that could compromise brand integrity
- A clean single-entry structure that markets the programme at the top, explains the course offer in the middle, and converts to LMS sign-up at every natural pause point
- Plain language throughout (no jargon, no charity-sector clichés) matching the "no-nonsense, educator-first" tone the programme was built on
03
"In its first year, the platform reached 1,500 educators and more than 45,000 young people across the UK." - British Red Cross · HumanKind Educator Programme
Design System
Visual Language
Constrained by design. The British Red Cross brand is one of the few in the UK where brand compliance is not a preference: it is a legal and reputational obligation. Every decision was made within those parameters.
Colour System
#D0011B - BRC Red
#FFFFFF - White
#0F0F0F - Near Black
#F6F6F6 - Off White
Typography Pairing
Aa Bb Cc 123
Balanced heading presence with highly readable supporting copy.
Primary:Helvetica Neue LT Pro 75 Bold - headings & display
Secondary:Helvetica Neue LT Pro 55 Roman - body & UI
Design Intent
The BRC brand uses Helvetica Neue LT Pro exclusively. No secondary typeface, no decorative fonts, no exceptions. The type system itself carries authority without needing anything added.
Red is used with restraint: buttons, key accents, and calls to action only. The rest is white space and black type. This is how the British Red Cross brand has always communicated: clean, authoritative, and human.
The layout (80rem container, 5rem vertical padding) gives the content room to breathe and reflects the professional, considered tone the organisation requires. This is a CPD platform for teachers, not a consumer marketing page.
